1. Malaria (20% of deaths annually)
Malaria Consortium Nigeria informs that 11%
of all child deaths in the world happen in
Nigeria.
The leading reason for them is malaria. Nearly
250,000 of Nigerian children die every year
from malaria. Despite the fact that the most
vulnerable for this diseases are pregnant
women and children, the entire population is at
risk.



2. Lower Respiratory Infections (19%)
Pneumonia and some other lower respiratory
tract diseases are the second leading case of
deaths in Nigeria. The main way of preventing
it – an early treatment. These kind of diseases
affect children and adults equally.


3.HIV (9%)
Nigeria has the second-largest number of
people living with HIV. in Nigeria
the HIV prevalence rate among adults ages
15–49 was 3.1% in the beginning of 2014.
Youth is more vulnerable to this disease and
young women are at higher risk that young
men. Main cases of getting HIV in Nigeria –
heterosexual transmissions.

4.Diarrheal Diseases (5%)
Diarrheal diseas are common at the vast of
African countries. According to the UNESCO
statistics, the diarrhea death rate in Nigeria is
18.8% and is one of the worst result in sub-
Sahara Africa. Diarrhea is a case of over 16%
of child deaths in Nigeria. 150,000 deaths
mainly amongst children under five occur
annually because this disease. Usually it is
caused by poor sanitation and hygiene
practices.

5. Meningitis (3%)
The worst thing about meningitis is that it
usually has very bad consequences for general
health even after recovery. For example on
2009 large outbreak of this illness caused
more than 75 000 cases and 4000 deaths in
northern Nigeria and southern Niger.
