Should a guy of AS genotype marry a lady with Genotype SC? |

If you get married your chances of having a child who would have the genotype SS or SC are very high. While I would not discourage you(I know of a family of whom the mom and dad were AS and AS and had five AA or AS...and one SS with a high level of fetal hemoglobin....and I also know of another family with AS and AS who had six children...3 of whom were SS) I would advise you to think carefully of what you are about to undertake. If you really love each other....do consider not marrying as the costs of bringing up a very sick SS child would be too great. One interesting fact....IVF may be able to help you and your intended to have healthy AS children...as the article quoted below explains. [b]In vitro fertilization (IVF) combined with a procedure called Preimplantation Genetic Diagnosis (PGD) can improve a woman's chances of having a healthy baby when there is a family history of inherited genetic diseases or conditions, or if a patient has experienced miscarriages caused by embryo chromosomal abnormality. IVF is expensive...so discuss with a gynecologist about that option and how it could help with you having healthy AS children only. Some more info....click here and here |

Hi there, yeah you can but would you consider adoption? The chance of having an SS child is definitely there, if you can consider adoption then go right ahead, good luck |
