Host Country, Namibia at a press conference held at the Namibia Football Association(NFA) secretariat unleashed two police officers as members of its squad that will face Nigeria’s Super Falcons during the 2014 African Women Championship (AWC) .

Brave Gladiators coach, Jaqueline Shipanga ,named defenders Twelikondjela Amukoto and Iina Katuta in her final 21-member squad for the tournament kicking off on Saturday October 11, 2014 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Windhoek, Namibia.

The list made up of three goalkeepers, seven defenders, eight midfielders and three strikers has regulars such as captain Uerikondjera Kasaona, playmaker Zenatha Coleman and midfielder Thomalina Adams making the cut.

Shipanga, who revealed that it was a tough decision to arrive to pick the final team from the 24 players at her disposal, delayed unveiling her final selection till the last minute to accommodate the duo of Amukoto and Katuta who were away on a six months police training course.

She also showered encomium on some of her senior players for their commitment through out the Brave Gladiators build up to the championship.

“Twelikondjela and Iina are experienced players who always give us options. Katuta can play in defense and also in midfield and Amukoto is such a rock,” Shipanga said.

“As I said before, I worked with these girls for so many years and I know what they can do and they all deserve to be around but the rules are clear, we need only 21. We have the option of having a shortlist of players namely Anna Shikesho and Novata Paulus, who will be ready to ship in once there are injuries or something major to any of the 21 players before the competition starts,” Shipanga said.

“Stella (Rita Williams) and Elmarie Fredericks have shown hunger and desire to be in the team and they made it. They have the experience to add value to the team’s course” explained Shipanga.

Meanwhile, local coaches, Bobby Samaria, Willem Kapukare, Timo Tjongarero, Woody Jacobs and Bernard Kaanjuka were announced as members of the Technical Advisory Committee, which will be headed by the NFA Technical Director, Klaus Starke.

Namibia will face six time winners, Super Falcons in their last Group A match on October 17 2014, three days after locking horns with Cote d’Ivoire.
