The entire University of Jos (UNIJOS) community was thrown into pandemonium following the invasion of the institution by gunmen, killing a police inspector and a corporal who were on guard duty at the university on Tuesday. Eyewitnesses said the gunmen numbering over 12, swooped on the security men at the permanent site of the university at about 11p.m. and fired gunshots at them and in the process killed two policemen. A security man, who was at the scene but narrowly escaped, said it was a case of hit-and-run, adding that immediately they gunned down the security men, they escaped in the same cars that brought them. The killings left the students and other members of the university community to scamper for safety before reinforcement of security men arrived the scene. The State Police Public Relation Officer, DSP Emmanuel Abuh, who confirmed the incident, said “the two policemen were killed by the gunmen where the policemen were deployed on guard duty. Abuh said men of the command have commenced full investigation into the killings and would soon track down the perpetrators of the act. He added that the inspector had put in up to 25 years in service, while corporal was a young policeman who has just started his career. He, however, refused to give their names. http://acadablog.com/armed-men-attack-unijos-kills-security-guards-on-duty/ |
