I know you might be gobsmacked at first when viewing the topic of this thread but don't get me wrong, education has it's importance in our daily lives. What baffles me is why some people makes it a do or die affair.I've heard stories of students committing suicide because they failled waec or jamb.sincerely,it's not worth it. All we humans are chasing is success, for the fact that you're educated or brilliant doesn't mean you'll be successful, though it might increase your chance. My physics teacher who had a strong 2.1 in elect/elect is still teaching till today.the common sentence among those who failed either waec or jamb is "it's a shame for me to sit down at home for a whole year while my friend has gained admission",but they've forgotten that Aliko Dangote was a college of education drop out. Everybody in life cannot make it through education, that's why in my opinion "NOBODY IS A DULLARD" i.e he might be dull educationally but be good in areas of sport or craftmanship.Kelechi Iheanacho is not a university graduate but richer than almost all the graduates of NL. Never look down on yourself if people call you a dullard, your friend that's a graduate might need your financial help in future, don't be depressed because you failled jamb,GOD will still make a way. Thanks. 1 Like 1 Share |

One thing u must understand is that most of those people that are successful without formal education has special gift or are from successful homes .But those that doesnt have to rely on formal education to increase their chances of survival. |

Re: Opinion:education(formal) Is Overhyped In Nigeria by politricks: 11:34am On Oct 14, 2014 |
mesoade:The difference is that most of those you see taking education as a do or die affair probably dont hav any special talent or something to fall back on hence their determination. |

OP is damn right, Spot on. I keep telling people they should accept any course given to them after attempting jamb two or three times, but they won't listen and still be chasing their so-called dream course in the name of, it doesn't matter how far, but how well and the patient dog eat the fattest bone. Keep waiting for the fattest bone before it dawn on you. They think going to University determines how posh their will become. Sometimes, I keep pondering how the so-called course translate to how-well when it doesn't guarantee success. Success isn't determined by your educational certificate but how well you practise it and yield something outstanding. You might have educational prowess but fumble in the aspect of putting into practise when people you tag as dummy is excelling more than you. Like Op said, no one is dummy. Our educational system is messed up, that it only depends on teaching without practicing it in a laboratory. I think education is over-rated. I have my motive for going to University which I think most Nigerian student lack. I'm attending University to; - Sharpen and broaden my level of literacy i.e when white collar job ain't available, I'll make end meet from other source(s). - Make me area/street smart. - Meet people from all walk of life and socialise educationally/academically to be able to make it at the top. I have come to notice, Success is mostly not attained by the geek/nerd who read to pass exam brilliantly, but those who read to explore. |

There are no dull students or people, there are only dull classrooms. An educated mechanic's shop is differently packaged and the kind of customers they have is sophisticated. Everyone needs formal education. If you say or think that formal education is over hyped, over rated or expensive, try Ignorance... When your grand pikin mate correct your English 2 times, you go begin sing "I wish" |

Odilafta: Your thinking is flawed. OP is emphasizing on University education. PS- Not all graduates/undergraduate can even speak english sef. |

It's beautiful as many people are beginning to see this Going to school, having the best grades doesn't guarantee anything for you in future It's more about your personality, about hardwork and intelligence - you get none of these from university, tho you would need them through university but many who aren't privileged or focused for school can channel their energies to other productive measures and make it big in life |
Re: Opinion:education(formal) Is Overhyped In Nigeria by Nobody: 1:38pm On Oct 14, 2014 |
Odilafta: Yes! I have re-read it. I think you're depending solely on OP's topic headline instead of his post. His topic is wrong but the post entails what he's implying. He ain't saying formal education is bad i.e Primary and secondary but University education is over-rated. |
