The Ireland manager punched above his weight on Europe's biggest stages during his time in charge of Celtic and is hopeful that the Boys in Green can rise to the occasion

Martin O'Neill likened Ireland's European Championship qualification match with Germany on Tuesday night to a big Champions League game as the Boys in Green prepare to tackle the World Cup holders.

Germany are reeling from a 2-0 defeat to Poland on Saturday and O'Neill is wary of sitting back and allowing Joachim Low's side to dictate the play.

"If we deliberately sit in, Germany will pick us off because that's what they do," O'Neill said at the pre-match press conference. "Remember we like to attack as well."
