Chapter one

VENUE: LAGOS BAR BEACH
TIME: 0600 am

A trio of fishermen struggled to anchor their engine propelled boat before they managed to secure it to a stock protruding from the white sand using a tough rope. They had set off only to discover that they were almost out of fuel, they needed to find money else they would had to stay on an empty stomach till the next day, they could transport passengers for a nice fee but they still needed some money to buy fuel. High tide came in as the wave broke on them giving a cooling feel, the colour of the water had an unusual red tint that was fast spreading. They carefully waded in, curious to find the source of the blood spill. They immediately became petrified on discovering it.

Staring them in the face was the bloated and swollen body of a man, there was a deep wound on the forehead oozing out the precious liquid, the body floated downwards. One of the fishermen dove in as it sank and pulled it up by the waste before lying it against the ground. The man opened his mouth and water rushed out, before the fishermen could speak to him, his eyes shut close. A small crowd formed a circle round discussing in a high tune, how did the man get on the ocean? Was he a thief or a victim. A young boy from the crowd searced his ripped suit and found some money along with an ID card. The boy bent down and checked, his heart was still beating. Without wasting time, An ambulance was called to take the man to the hospital.

VENUE: HOSPITAL
TIME: 1100 am

The young boy and one of the fishermen tried to make a quick getaway from the theatre ward. They could get into police trouble, what if the medical bill became very big? They were almost outside when a muscular porter who could pass for a wrestler obstructed them.

"Doctor dey call ina, ina person don open eye" said the porter before leading them back into the ward.

The man looked better now. Heavy plaster helped seal his injury. He was slim, tall and looked young and handsome-- he had the complexion of chocolate.
The doctor pulled off his gloves and dumped them inside a bin.

"Two bullets had to be removed very close to his brain, he knows how to stay alive, i hope there aren't any complications" he said.

In a flash the man screamed complaining of headache.
He began to see double, the faces became masked especially that of the doctor and armed, then he jumped off the bed, the steeple holding the drip flung in the direction of the fisherman blinding him momentarily. The man pounced on the doctor giving him a sound beating before he was restrained by the porter.

"calm down" said the doctor. His body ached from the experience. The man as if controlled by a robot returned to the bed and lied down. The doctor wished he had said that earlier.

"so what's your name" asked the doctor. The man looked puzzled and confused at that question and scratched his head before confirming the doctor's worst fears.

"Do i have a name?"

(continuation)

"hmm..." muttered the doctor, he racked his memory for what to say and came up with something.

"This should be short term Amnesia and he should recover in a short while" the depressed faces of the boy and the fisherman lightened.

"So do you have any identity, he is going to need a casenote for records, ID card and stuff" added the doctor. The fisherman looked at the young boy who produced a card from the wallet and handed it over to the doctor.

"David Obaro, 32 years, next of kin-- none" said the doctor as he read out loudly. He turned the card upside down by mistake and could see a code, it looked like a special bank account serial or something very rare.

"Do you remember anything about this?" he asked showing the man now known as David the code from a safe distance. David felt an ache as he recollected what the code meant, all he could fathom was a stack of files hidden in a box.

"Has his bill been paid?" asked the doctor before a receipt was handed over to him. The money was half of that in the wallet-- the fisherman and the young boy had taken the rest for themselves. Soon they were gone. David hanged around the hospital premises, he couldn't get the picture of a bank and a stack of files out of his head, he knew what to do and also left.

The doctor couldn't help feeling jittery. He had to take the patient in as an emergency case ditching a lot of norms in the process, he received a beating and to worsten it the patient had bullet wounds and memory loss. Maybe they were a gang, he was thankful for the way he took things. He dialled the police info number, they had to know about this.

VENUE: THE DRAGON'S LAIR
TIME: 0300

The Dragon's lair was a fortified cave located underground at a spot where Togo shared boundary with Nigeria. The surface was entirely covered by a dense forest.

Most of it was occupied by terrorists who often went on dangerous missions both in the country and abroad.
Vagan sat in one of the bunkers that was designed as a sitting room. He was a tall man and had a good muscular frame. One side of his face was covered with a metal plate-- The result of his last mission. An earpiece was sticking out of his ear.

"ZEUS play me that call again" he ordered evoking an electronic reply. He listened to everything. He could tap into any unprotected call in the country provided it passed through a network provider. He never believed that the man who had tried to kill him was alive after that battle. At least he didn't remember anything, he would be very vulnerable in that state. Allowing him to get those files could make him remember everything, that was a risk he wasn't willing to take.
"ZEUS, send in the foot soldiers to bring our target back, dead or alive".
