Bayern Munich & Chelsea Among Europe’s Toughest Tacklers by ekundayoalo(m): 12:51pm On Oct 21, 2014
Bayern Munich and Chelsea are among Europe’s toughest
tacklers this season, with the Bundesliga champions and Jose
Mourinho’s men sitting joint fourth in the Huawei Team Ranking
at the moment, while Metz are the continent’s top dogs for now
ahead of Lorient and Sampdoria.
Metz have so far averaged 85 tackles per game, which has
earned them seventh place in Ligue 1 with 15 points from 10
games.
Lorient and Sampdoria have both made 84 tackles per game,
but the Frenchmen find themselves in the lower regions of the
table, whereas the Serie A outfit are still unbeaten and sit third in the Italian top flight. A number of teams have averaged 83
tackles per game so far this term, with Bayern Munich, Chelsea, Everton and Lens sitting joint fourth.
Bayern’s aggressive style of play has seen them go top of the
Bundesliga table, holding a four-point lead over second-placed Borussia Monchengladbach.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have benefited from their tough tackling as well and are still unbeaten after eight games, leading the Premie League table with 22 points.
Everton have to settle for a place in mid-table, while Lens’ tough tackling has failed to keep them out of the relegation zone in France.
Swansea, Empoli and French quartet Olympique Lyonnais, Saint Etienne, Caen and Guingamp complete the top 10, all making 82 tackles per game, thus sharing eighth place.
At the bottom of the end of the table, Southampton, Granada, Sassuolo and Aston Villa are Europe's cleanest teams with a mere 70 tackles per game.
Other clubs that need relatively few tackles include La Liga giant Real Madrid (71), Serie A leaders Juventus (72) and Louis van Gaal’s Manchester United (72).
