Sir Alex Ferguson has spoken about the sack of his immediate successor, David Moyes, for the first time and claimed he did not personally choose his fellow Scot.

He also rejected talk that Moyes took over an ageing squad and accused him of making the team play too slowly.

Ferguson retired in May 2013, after coaching United for about 27 trophy-laden years, but Moyes found it incredibly hard to follow in the 72-year-old’s steps.

“The reason for playing at speed was that United players had been accustomed to operating that[url][/url][url][/url]

way,” Ferguson wrote in new extracts of his book.

“If the tempo slowed for any reason, I would be into them at half-time.

“‘This is not us,’ I would say. Playing with speed never hindered our results. It was our way: energy and determination in the last third of the pitch.”

In the latest version of My Autobiography which will be released on Thursday, Ferguson also insisted he was not involved in the process of sacking Moyes or the decision to appoint Louis van Gaal.
