It was weekend of goals' feast for Nigerian players across the globe as the likes of Emmanuel Emenike, Victor Moses and Elderson Echiejile all gave their respective club sides something to cheer about.

It was however not all sweet tales as the likes of IK Uche not only fired blanks but even crashed to home defeat.

again takes a look at the performances of Nigerian players for the weekend showcasing the country’s ambassadors across the world leagues

ENGLAND

Victor Moses (Stoke City): Injury denied Moses a call-up to the national team but that did not stop him from registering his first goal for Stoke City in the weekend’s EPL clash at home against West Ham.

Moses who has endured a 14-month long goals drought netted in the 33rd minute of Saturday’s clash at the Britannia but it was not able to get his side maximum points as they ended up giving up a two-goal lead to settle for a 2-2 draw against West Ham.




Mikel Obi (Chelsea): An undisclosed injury kept Nigerian midfielder Mikel Obi out of his club’s weekend clash against neighbors QPR.

Mikel is nonetheless in the Nigeria squad for the upcoming AFCON qualifying matches against Congo and South Africa.

So far Mikel has made six substitute appearances for the Blues this term and would be back for their Champions League against Maribor

Sammy Ameobi (Newcastle): Sammy’s record breaking goal last term paved way for him in Newcastle’s starting line-up against Liverpool.

The Nigerian winger was on for 90 minutes as Maggpies smiled away with a precious lone goal win

Omastone Aluko (Hull City): Super Eagles winger Omatsone Aluko was brought in the 64th minute of Hull City’s 1-0 home loss to Southampton on Saturday. Aluko swapped places with Paul McShane to make his fourth substitute appearance for the Tigers this season.

Victor Anichebe, Brown Ideye (West Brom): Nigerian international, Victor Anichebe was handed just a cameo role for the Baggies as they played the last two minutes of West Brom’s 1-0 victory over Leicester City. His compatriot, Brown Ideye was however not listed for action.

Kenneth Omeruo (Middlesbrough): Super Eagles defender Kenneth Omeruo whose performance in the national team lately has been faulted was missing for the second straight week for Middlesbrough.

Boro nonetheless eased to a 3-0 victory over 10-man Rotherham at the New York Stadium.

Hope Akpan (Reading): The One-cap Super Eagles midfielder played for 76 minutes in Reading’s 3-1 loss away to Blackburn. It was Akpan’s 11th appearance this season in the Championship, he has been handed another call-up by Coach Stephen Keshi

TURKEY

Emmanuel Emenike (Fenerbhace): Emenike ended his goals drought in Turkey as he netted one the goals in his team’s victory over Besiktas. The Nigerian international last scored for his Turkish outfit in August before returning to goal scoring ways on Sunday.

Hopefully Emenike will be able to end is goals drought for the Super Eagles too having failed to find the back of the net in over a year of fruitless tries.

Godfrey Oboabona (Rizespor): The former Sunshine Stars captain played all 90 minutes for Rizespor in their 1-1 draw at home to Erciyesspor. He has played five games this season.

John Utaka, Macauley Chrisantus (Sivasspor): Nigerian strikers John Utaka and Macauley Chrisantus both fired blanks having being offered substitutes roles in Sivasspor’s 3-0 loss away to Bursaspor.

FRANCE

Elderson Echiejile (AS Monaco): The Nigerian international left-back during his third appearance for Monaco this season scored his first goal for the club in their 1-1 draw at home with Reims.

Echiejile had secured the opener before the visitors rallied for an equaliser to have a share of the spoils.

Vincent Enyeama (Lille): The era of clean sheets looks over for Super Eagles skipper Vincent Enyeama who conceded his tenth goal of the Ligue 1 season as Lille were held to a 1-1 draw by AS Saint-Etienne.

That nonetheless, Enyeama produced heroics with a brilliant save to deny Max-Alain Gradel from scoring his second of the evening from the spot.

ISRAEL

Austin Ejide, John Ogu (Hapoel Be’er Sheva): Super Eagles midfielder John Ogu and his compatriot Austin Ejide were both active in the weekend’s 1-1 draw recorded by their team

Olanrewaju Kayode (Maccabi Netanya): Former Flying Eagles star, Olanrewaju Kayode earned his Israeli club Maccabi Netanya a point by finding the back of the net in the 1-1 draw against Beitar Jerusalem. Kayode pulled his side leveled as he scored the equaliser in the 39th minute.

ITALY

Nnamdi Oduamadi (Crotone): The Nigerian winger was benched for all 90 minutes as Crotone scrapped their second win of the season; beating Perugia 2-1.

Joel Obi (Inter Milan): Super Eagles midfielder Joel Obi played for 51 minutes as Inter lost 2-0 to Parma. Incidentally, Obi was on-loan at Parma last season where he was sent to get match fitness after returning from long injury lay off.

SCOTLAND

Efe Ambrose (Celtic FC): Ambrose was an unused substitute for Celtic who defeated Inverness by a lone goal to lift the Hoops up to third in the Scottish Premiership table. Ambrose before now has been a super regular but his status seems to weaning.

BELGIUM

Uche Nwofor (Lierse): Super Eagles forward Uche Nwofor was brought in on 40 minutes for Alhassan Keita but he could not salvage the situation as his team lost at home 1-0 to Genk.

The outing was the second for Nwofor who formerly plies his trade in the Eredivise.

SWEDEN

Kennedy Igboananike (AIK): Nigerian attacker Kennedy Igboananike was was left to watch proceedings from the bench as AIK managed a 1-1 away draw against Kalmar.

John Owoeri (Atvidaberg): Former Flying Eagles star John Owoeri got a starters’ shirt but was withdrawn for Simon Skrabb on 70 minutes as Atvidaberg beat Malmo 2-1. Oweri has had 25 games under his belt this season.
