1] The Osborn’s Checklist

This checklist was invented by Alex Osborn, a creative theorist and it is based on the fact that new ideas tend to arise from combining or altering existing elements.

The checklist contains many possibilities of changing an existing idea or product into new ideas, whether close or far from the initial idea.

It list can be used as a whole or in part to alter existing ideas to get new ones.

The Checklist:

Put to other uses? As it is?… If modified?..

Adapt? Is there anything else like this? What does this tell you? Is the past comparable?

Modify? Give it a new angle? Alter the colour, sound, odour, meaning, motion, and shape?

Magnify? Can anything be added, time, frequency, height, length, strength? Can it be duplicated, multiplied or exaggerated?

Minify? Can anything be taken away? Made smaller? Lowered? Shortened? Lightened? Omitted? Broken up?

Substitute? Different ingredients used? Other material? Other processes? Other place? Other approach? Other tone of voice? Someone else?

Rearrange? Swap components? Alter the pattern, sequence or layout? Change the pace or schedule? Transpose cause and effect?

Reverse? Opposites? Backwards? Reverse roles? Change shoes? Turn tables? Turn other cheek? Transpose ‘+/-‘?

Combine? Combine units, purposes, appeals or ideas? A blend, alloy, or an ensemble?

2] Taking a Break

Yup! Taking a break. Many designers fail to realize that taking a break from a project helps them to develop the project better.

You can take a walk, listen to your favorite song, watch a movie etc. this little break can come in handy when you need inspiration to continue a job.

So my advice is, calm your nerves and let your mind play around , you might be surprised at your output.
