Nigeria’s table tennis prodigy, Ojo Onaolapo,
said he was shocked to have made an instant
impact in Europe after emerging the best
player in Italy barely three months after he
moved to the country.
The Commonwealth Games bronze medallist
beat Bisi Paolo, 3-2 to emerge champion in the
Italian championship last Sunday. The
competition is an annual event to determine
Italy’s top three players in both divisions one
and two.
And in an exclusive interview with our
correspondent, the player said his victory was
as a result of hard work and determination. He
said that the success would prepare him to
propel his Italian club, Macorzzi table tennis
club, to victory when the league serves off on
November 21.
“I am very happy to win the competition
because the Italians never thought that an
African could beat them like that especially a
player that is new to the system.
This is just a step for me and my focus now is
on the league which I hope to win for my club.
“I can’t say I am not surprised that things
happened so fast for me here.
But I know that if one keeps faith in God
nothing is in possible. So, I can just say this is
product of God’s work, determination and
focus,” he said.
