The costruction of the terminal that was to replace the existig terminal was in the offing since 2010, but because of bureaucracy and misplaced priorities, the project came to a hault. JKIA used to be a worldclass airport in africa inthe late 80s and early 90s. but with the current age, JKIA was a bit down airport prone with congestion. An airport built to handle 2.5 million passengers was handling an average of 6.5 million persengers annually. To add salt the injury, on 7,August,2013, in Kenyan style like all major disasters than happen in kenya, which is usually between September and August - The airport was on fire!!1 literally, Burnt to the ground. Little did we imagine, this was probably the best thing that happend. Facing competition from neighbor Ethiopia's Airport at the regional level, The governmet of Kenya ,GOK was forced to act quickly so not to loose dominance over international airlines setting their bases in the region. 1 year after the fire, the new terminal had been finished and is now open to passengers using the national carrier - Kenya airways new fleet of boengs 787s , and gradually will add other airlines to use the terminal. In addition, kenya airways constructed its own cool lounges available only to its customers and all mebers of the skyTeam airline.
In addition, The construction of the new state of the art terminal , called the greenfield terminal or terminal 3 begun in late 2013 and is expected to be complete by 2018, the terminal will have a capacity of handling 20 million pasengers, it will have the biggest open ground space for passenger traffic in africa, it will have its own dedicated railway to town, high way among other things

The site to see, is the new lounges, available to SkyTeam patner airlines for , Premier World and Sky Priority guests passengers. Design with African heritage as well as the Contemporary world in mind. there are two lounges, one called Simba and the other, Pride lounge. the lounges have differnt places for (First, Business, Premium Economy and Economy class passengers). they have smoking areas, Sound proof sleeping areas, baby changing and playing area, working area will have tablets and E-readers placed on the table, dining areas, piped music areas and ofcourse free high speed Wi-Fi available all through

Its just incredible that our current president Uhuru Kenyatta personally supervised the transformation of the 2nd busiest airport in africa which is named after his father Jomo Kenyatta. He always made impromptu tours to the facility to check on its progress without even his bodyguards to get a feel of how the project is proceeding.

After nigeria will be boasting of been the giant of africa with shameful airports.

Nigeria, we hail thee

In Nigeria under the pdp, building airport is rocket science.

Before GEJ all our aerodromes were glorified airports in name only. How many presidents have we had before Gej, yet none saw it fit to repair our airports. In GEJ the govt believed the development of airport infrastructure is an economic necessity hence it went about renovating them. Can someone please post pictures of our airports pre-GEJ?

The kids here need to be shown the state our airports were in before the Transformation agenda.
