I have been saving up for a car and would have the complete money by 3rd week in December.

I am in a dilemma though, I was planning to wait till January before making the purchase due to what I heard about cars being cheaper in January. But then again I heard tokunbo cars will be expensive from January next year due to new government policies.

I need your advice people, what's the best time to buy a car? 3rd week in December 2014 or 2nd week in January 2015.

Never postpone what you can do today till tomorrow. If you have the money now, buy it. Granted you have been saving a long time. all these people saying that cars will be cheaper, how do they know?

What if it becomes more expensive, you will have to save more thereby jeopardizing the money already on hand. Cos any "accident" could happen to that money putting you further away from owning your car

3rd week starts from 16th. You'll hardly have time to register it and you might be in a hurry to select too.
I think cars may be cheaper in January if you want to buy used. But then you have to be very lucky to get a clean one b4 the Shylock used car dealers who always seem to be first to the first balls.

I think you are in better position to buy the car before January due to the following reasons:

- increase in custom duty from the current 35% to 70% by January 1.

- the exchange rate of naira to dollar.
