The second edition of the Lagos Motor Show will even be bigger and better in October 2006, according to the show organiser, Fashintext Limited, and the collaborating NTA 2 Channel 5 Lagos.

Number of official visitors have been confirmed and this has been put at 5,000 but expectations are that all participating exhibitors at the Ocean View grounds on Victoria Island, where the event slated to begin October 5 and end on the 11th will hold have completed and signed necessary papers for the very limited space available.

Though the participants for the 2006 show had already been pencilled, Mr Ifeanyi Agwu, Managing Director of the organising company, says the success of this year's event depends also on the chances of more car accessory dealers, more car manufacturers’ representatives and more visitors taking full advantage of the fair to either display or choose their favourite vehicles or accessories.

Throughout the show, participants and invited visitors will take advantage of a special press squad to air their views on this year's event in the exclusive ‘Press Room’. There will be good music and other forms of entertainment, the event organisers promised.

While many have complained in the past about absence of car franchisee organisations like Coscharis which markets BMW and Globe Motors for Mercedes Benz, the overall opinion now is positive that the rave of the moment dealerships like Chery Motors and BriscoeFord are ready to show their model line- ups.

What do you think?
Be ready to fill a simple questionnaire at the fair ground, such as: Did you come to the Motor Show to see the latest offering? What were your impressions? Did you expect more or did you leave happy? And most importantly, will you be back in 2007? The organisers will want to hear from you. There will also be possible discussions on the challenges of bad fuel and its effect on the economy.

As more participants indicate interest in taking part in the forthcoming Lagos Motor Show, Fashintext Nigeria Limited, organisers of the annual event has shifted the venue from the Ocean-View restaurant Victory Island to Tafawa Balewa Square Lagos.

Speaking to Vanguard Motoring on phone, weekend, Mr. Ifeanyi Agwu, Managing Director of Fashintext Nigeria Limited disclosed that the number of confirmed participant had continued to swell making it impossible for the former venue to accommodate all. “We also decided to shift the kick-off date to October 18 to 25, 2006 to enable participant prepare adequately for the event.”

According to him, they cannot afford to drop some of the prospective exhibitors due to space constraints and the best alternative was the Tafawa Balewa Square which used to host of Auomania Motor Show in the eighties and early nineties.

Mr. Agwu explained that all the expected exhibitors had agreed to the new venue Tafawa Balewa Square which is more spacious and has good security too.
“We wanted an alternative venue where the exhibitors would display their products without space constraint and the Tafawa Balewa Square was the best choice having been used for similar events in the past,” he said.

“With this new venue, we cannot shut our doors to interested exhibitors who had come a long way with us over the years starting from Abuja Motor Show,” he further noted.

This year edition of Lagos Motor Show is the second and the number of participants have been on the increase following the successes of the Abuja Motor Show in May this year.

Established brands such as Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet, Renault, Mitsubishi, Peugeot and ford had all confirmed their participations while new brands like Dacia (a member of Renault group) Simba and a host of others will be receiving their first baptism at the show.

Simba, according to the organisers of the show, will be displaying pleasure cars and Minivans from one of Asia’s most advance technology while Dacia is an European brand with competitive pricing.

Peugeot Automobile Nigerian Limited, will be returning to Lagos show after a long breaking and will be parading the best of hatchbacks, and other super saloons like 206, 307, 407, 406 and 607.

This year’s show according to the organisers, is not all about car display but acquisition. To make it possible, UBA, and Equipment Leasing Association of Nigeria will be on hand at the show ground to assist prospective car owner who might choose the lease option to acquire their brand of cars at the fair.
