Some students of Great Ife were yesterday evening brutalised
by some Students and non students who were
suspected to be cultists. The fight started in front of the
SUB after a student right movement, ERC(Education
Rights Campaign) finished their meeting at SUB TV
room.
Speaking with Olamide, one of the active members
under the defunct Sammy led security committee who
was at the scene, he said," after our meeting, Ayinla
(the Chief Security Officer of the Students' Union)and
his group confronted one of the student Union activists
who was also at the just concluded meeting to beat
him up for reasons I don't know. I had to intervene
which led to myself and him being beaten. We called
Sammy at this point but at his arrival they all fled to
town.
After their departure,we gathered and move to
Asherifa to get Ayinla to answer on why he had to beat
a student of OAU on campus. On our arrival at
Asherifa,we met none of them only to be confronted
again at the school gate by some guys who bruised
some of us brutally including Sammy.
Eventually we were able to apprehend two of them and
we already brought them to Awo. Similar to the case of
Iwilade several years back,we anticipate the coming of
this cultists to rescue their members who are with us,
he added."
In the same vein, Sammy, while addressing students at
Awo cafe made it known that the fight this night was
caused by no other reason but the mobilisation of OAU
students to protest against the government of
president Goodluck which did not go down well with a
faction of the Students' Union government.
Sunday evening, members of the ERC were
holding a summit at SUB TV room when the president,
PRO, the Union’s CSO and hired cultists from town
launched a deadly attack on them. A member of the
ERC [Davo] who sustained a deep axe cut to his
forehead is currently under intensive care, while
Comrades Sammy, Engels, Juwon and others were
brutally bloodied. As of now, few of these cult elements
have been apprehended by Great Ife students and are
under interrogation.
