Hezekiah's Prayer Was It Right Or Wrong by hisableplc(m): 7:14am On Dec 06, 2014
2 Kings 20:1 In those days was Hezekiah sick unto death. And the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz came to him, and said unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Set thine house in order; for thou shalt die, and not live.

I need sound spiritual minds to discuss this topic.

Here was a prophecy from the Almighty who knows the end from the beginning and adviced Hezekaiah to prep his will cos he was going to die.
2 Kings 20:2 Then he turned his face to the wall, and prayed unto the LORD, saying, 2 Kings 20:3 I beseech thee, O LORD, remember now how I have walked before thee in truth and with a perfect heart, and have done that which is good in thy sight. And Hezekiah wept sore.

Not really a bad thing to do but not the will of God. Well God who gave us the power of choice wanted us to be responsible for our decisions. He honored his choice and 15 yrs was added.

The big question how did he use his 15 yrs and did he die righteous?

Bible made us understand this 2 Kings 20:17-18 Behold, the days come, that all that is in thine house, and that which thy fathers have laid up in store unto this day, shall be carried into Babylon: nothing shall be left, saith the LORD. And of thy sons that shall issue from thee, which thou shalt beget, shall they take away; and they shall be eunuchs in the palace of the king of Babylon.

Now because of what he did 2 Kings 20:20 And the rest of the acts of Hezekiah, and all his might, and how he made a pool, and a conduit, and brought water into the city, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah

Took innocent ones to slavery n did not finish his ministry well.

Wouldnt he had preferred to die well as God's plan though sick better than been healthy n go against Gods plan...you can even imagine n see how selfish he was after d latter prophecy see what he said 2 Kings 20:19 Then said Hezekiah unto Isaiah, Good is the word of the LORD which thou hast spoken. And he said, Is it not good, if peace and truth be in my days?
At the detriment of others.

Your candid opinions about such prayers n allowing Gods will.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with his prayer, even though he misused such eventually.

Who wants to die, anyway?

Great question! Thanks op for bringing up this matter.
1. Hezekiah should have surrendered to Gods will rather than challenge God.
2. When God gives us a message, he understands best, but because of our myopic view we never allow Gods will to take place.
3. It was evident that God wanted to prevent Hez from making the most expensive mistake of his life.
4. Hez was only concerned about himself , but prefers that his children go into captivity. That shows clear greed.
5. The way he prayed for elongated life, he could have prayed for the overturning of the captivity but he chose not to.
Conclusion
It would always lead to a joyful end whenever we choose to allow Gods will to be done rather than put our selfish desires ahead of Gods plan. God is always right!
Thanks.

Ezekiah's prayer wasn't wrong. Just that along the line, in the added years, he did foolishly. He was tried by GOD and he fell. His fall resulted to Israel's captivity. Though due to the good things he had done before, GOD didn't allow it come in his time but in generations after him

It's not about wrong or right. Hezekiah's prayer was in the old testament before Jesus Christ came and taught us how to pray.
It's situated in the context of when people worshipped GOD in their own way and somehow on their own terms
When the demanded what they want
In the context of the period Jacob wrestled with GOD

This principally about going for HIS permissible will instead of submitting to HIS Divine will

But with we Christians, such prayers are not in line with the Lord's Prayer and the sacrifice of the cross but we can also go for HIS permissible will and this determines your life path - it's about choices
