The Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE) has said that the federal government realised more than N564.3 billion from privatisation of 123 enterprises.

The director-general of the BPE, Mr Benjamin Dikki, disclosed this in a paper presented over the weekend at the yearly workshop of the Commerce & Industry Correspondent Association of Nigeria (CICAN) entitled “Industrial Infrastructure Development: Public Private Initiatives.”

Dikki said that the BPE has concluded reforms in eight sectors of the economy namely telecommunications, power, banking and finance, marine, mining, industrial, steel, oil and gas, adding that government has also, so far, privatised 123 enterprises, including the recently concluded Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) successor companies and realised over N564.3 billion.

He noted that reforms and privatisation work which started over 20 years ago is hinged on the conviction that the private sector remains the sustainable driver of the total transformation of the Nigerian economy.

Dikki explained that privatisation of public enterprises has refocused government to governance and expanded private sector participation in the economy, saying that government is not a good business manager.

He also explained that this had led to reduction of future calls and revenue losses by federal government of about $10 billion for the 123 transaction, saying that this will expand the tax base through viable privatised public enterprises.

He pointed out that privatisation would continue to attract quality foreign investors and capital that will boost technology transfer, economic development and Forex inflow.

Later someone would be asking Jonathan why he 'sold' Nigerian ventures.

The competition and subsequently, improved service that it brings along, revenue aside, counts for nothing to them.

Myopic view.

Doyin Okupe‬ says #‎Jonathan‬ is...."Jesus Christ bearing Your Cross." #‎GOOD‬ POINT.

Since we Christians believe the Crucifixion of Jesus brought Redemption, Let's nail the 'Quota System Ph.D' Jonathan to the Cross, so that Nigeria can be salvaged from the impending doldrum.

money that will be re-routed out of the country via south africa.

How hard is it to commission a foreign firm with proven records to build a system that will add more MW to the national grid?
enough of the "Power has improved", lets do away with the generators

It doesn't seem to be working in the Power sector.

The power issue hasn't really reached standard in my location. But compared to before..

Well, they adjusted probably because of the introduction of prepaid meters.

How has this generated more jobs?

As for power, a sector that comes alive only during the rainy season, we are now in dry season. let's see how far nau. Let's see if the "power sector transformation" is really real.
