Of course they did conquer almost the known southern part of Nigeria in those days before the British destroyed a thriving civilization built by Africans and for Africans.

The only people that was so hard to conquer by the Benin empire was the Igbos as they do not have a figure head and a king - They were autonomous in nature hence it was almost difficult to bring them down under any ideology or an institution.Though they were very organised.

Ok is that why some Ibo attires show respect to the Benin empire?
