Background of Study
Antibody detection and identification are fundamental to the practice of immunohaematology. Antibody identification can be a guide to the clinical significance of the antibody and provides information that aids in the selection of suitable blood for transfusion. Prenatal immunohaematologic care of pregnant women requires the investigation of unexpected blood group antibodies (especially Red Blood Cell and Rhesus blood group antibodies) in their sera during pregnancy (Jeremiah and Mordi, 2011). When blood cell antibody screening is positive, it is necessary to determine specificity of the antibody, its clinical importance and the ability to cross the placenta and cause haemolytic disease of the foetus and newborn (HDFN).
