It is possible for a phone to explode while charging. However, it is doubtful that the phone in the picture could have cause such grievous damage to that hand since the phone appears to be almost intact. I do not also see the correlation between the hand and the heart as indicated above. At best, the other place of his body that would most likely have been affected by the blast would be the face since he was reported to be making a call at the time.
