Let us look at the case as it REALLY happened:

-First, This incident occurred in 2006, it was discussed then and is not 'new' as implied by the tweets and blogs.

-She was NEVER lashed for 'getting raped', that is a stupid and jaundiced narration. She was given 90 lashes for secluding herself with an unrelated male, the man was also given the same punishment (conveniently not mentioned, because it weakens the anti-women argument that the bloggers are trying to sell). The punishment was later increased when she admitted to having previously had a sexual affair with him. Both seclusion with a member of the opposite sex, and fornication, are punishable in Saudi Arabia under Islamic law.. A pardon by the King later reduced her punishment. It is only difficult to understand the evil effects of fornication on society, when people are so corrupted spiritually and morally, that they see nothing wrong with copulating openly, and jumping from one sexual partner to another.

- After her engagement to another man, and while she was out with her 'boyfriend'; who she claims possessed and was trying to blackmail her with a picture which she had previously sent to him (another wrong deed); they were both abducted by 7 men, who took them to a secluded area and raped her. The 7 men were given 1000 lashes each, and jail sentences ranging from 4-10 years.

Those are the TRUE facts of the case. If we want to revisit a 9year old case, we should at least be able to do so objectively. The false title of this blog and the angle given to it is all done to uphold the ongoing propaganda against Saudi Arabia because of their Islamic leaning.

It is interesting to note that if she had followed the law for which she was punished, and had neither sent compromising pictures of herself, nor decided to take it upon herself to go off alone with the 'boyfriend', after having been engaged to another man; ostensibly to retrieve the said picture; the whole incident would not have occurred. Her punishment was to prevent other women from making the same mistake.
It should be pointed out that the Haia religious police, take a very dim view of men who try to blackmail heedless women with pictures in uncompromising positions. The cases are always handled discretely and the blackmailers invariably punished. All she had to do was to report the matter to them, and her pictures would have been returned to her through the police. That she did not, throws some doubt over the whole affair as she stated it. Her own statements of seclusion and fornication however, were sufficient to convict her.

I also learnt dat saudi arabian women are not allowed to drive cars.

Well I have news for you. There is no higher incidence of 9 and 13 year olds getting married in muslim than in non muslim regions (cf India, Nepal, and non muslim middlebelters in Nigeria). 9 and 13 year old girls (even a recent 2 year old girl) are being raped and fornicated with routinely in the NON-MUSLIM eastern parts of the country, and the widespread child-porn websites being taken down daily do not originate in muslim countries, but in Europe and other christian countries. Islam teaches that a man and woman of whatever age, can only be sexual partners with honour, mutual consent and within the bounds of marriage.

So by your analogy, everyone should be left to do what he/she likes with his/her life. Good, then let us abolish all laws and all courts, and all governments and all rules at that, and go find trees to climb and pluck bananas.

Any individual that engages in fornication harms society, by spreading disease, by ensuring the culture of bastardy, by punishing the woman by abandoning her and the fruit of the joint fornication, alone and mostly unable to raise the child properly, putting more potential criminals on the streets; as against children who are raised in a responsible family set-up.
