Healthy, tasty and filling – cashew nuts are the most consumed nuts in the world. Cashew comes with loads of nutritional benefits. It can be consumed as a snack by roasting them or as paste in many cuisines. Cashew is used as a thickener in various dishes such as soups, sweets and curries. Most people have a misconception about nuts being unhealthy and fatty but cashew is known for its low fat content. Not only do cashews have a lower fat content than most other nuts, approximately 82% of their fat is unsaturated fatty acids, plus about 66% of this unsaturated fatty acid content are heart-healthy monounsaturated fats, similar to those found in olive oil.

Cashew provides loads of calories. 100 gms of cashew contains about 550 calories which is around a quarter of the total calorie intake for a person in a day. Cashew has been found to reduce LDL cholesterol by 10-20% thus preventing atherosclerosis and reducing the occurrence of plague formation in the arteries.
