The Ogun State government yesterday
confirmed the outbreak of Avian Influenza
otherwise known as H5N1 and also known as bird
flu. Vanguard says.
Minister of Agriculture, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina,
had on January 21, listed Ogun as one of the
seven states harbouring the bird flu virus but the
state government was yet to confirm the
statement.
The state commissioner for Agriculture, Mrs
Ronke Sokefun while addressing newsmen said
samples from Sango, Sagamu and Ifo live birds
market tested positive to the highly pathogenic
bird flu.
She said samples of birds taken from another
poultry farm on Obalende-Ikangba Road in
Odogbolu Local Government area of the state had
tested positive.
