MANCHESTER CITY

The citizens as they are fondly called rediscover their scoring form last weekend after hammering Newcastle 5-0 as they prepare to face the Catalan giants.

Manchester city would be looking to take revenge of Barcelona for last season’s elimination from the last-16 as they slug it out against each other at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Barcelona knocked-out city in the last season’s competition on a 4-1 aggregate score line with a 2-0 success at the Etihad, followed by a 2-1 success at the Nou camp in a game the citizens finished both with 10-men.

However, city goes into this fixture with a goal scoring attitude, with their last two Premier League games yielding six points and nine goals.

Last weekend’s 5-0 thrashing of Newcastle was their first home win since the new Year and they reduced the points between them and leaders Chelsea to 5-points after the Blues were held to a 1-1 draw at the Bridge.

James Milner is a big doubt, he is nursing a knee injury he wasn't involved in the match against Newcastle over the weekend , Yaya Toure wouldn't be able to face his old team as he concludes his suspension for the Red card he picked up against CSKA Moscow in the group stage.

BARCELONA

Following last weekend’s home defeat, Barcelona would be looking to redeem their image against in-form Manchester city.

Despite the defeat against Malaga over the weekend, Luis Enrique’s team still harbor hopes of a treble this season, with a crucial European match against Manchester city.

Enrique said during a press conference

"Defeats are painful whenever they occur and are difficult to overcome, but we have a great challenge against Manchester City," he said. "I hope this performance against Malaga was an accident, but we will see in the coming weeks."

The defeat over the weekend ended Barcelona’s run of 11 consecutive victories, they are very close to the Copa del Rey’s final after defeating Villarreal 3-1 in the first leg tie.

Barcelona heads into this fixture with a fully fit squad, with Jordi Alba being their only concern after the defender who trained alone on Sunday is suspected to be suffering from a knock.

HEAD-TO-HEAD

Manchester city have only managed three wins from eleven previous meetings with Spanish opponents, they've lost five out of those eleven. Two of those wins came against Villarreal an home and away victory in 2011/2012 group stage.

Barcelona’s win in Manchester last season, ended their run of five away games without a victory against English oppositions (D2 L3), a run which included a semi-final elimination against Manchester United in 2008 and Chelsea in 2012.

Barcelona’s away records against English opponents isn't great, they've won just seven of their last 29 away games played against English sides, losing 14 out of that figure. However, they seem to be a force to reckon with while playing at home, winning 15 and lost just two of their last 28 matches at the Nou Camp against English oppositions.

So, in this fixture Barcelona would be looking to avoid defeat and bring the game back to Nou Camp.
