In a world of convenient sharing of information, easy dissemination of misconceptions is often an effortless feat. Such is the case of the widespread misconceptions about masturbation, otherwise called self service or auto eroticism.
I am a medical doctor and, without bias, I will try to share a few evidence-based facts and correct some misconceptions about masturbation.

1. Self service causes erectile dysfunction.
This is not true as the most common causes of ED are psychological, a number of organic diseases and certain drug adverse effects. Masturbation has no role in ED
2. Self service causes depression or other mental illnesses.
False. Many mental illnesses are of polygenic origin, meaning there is often a background genetic predisposition combined with an exogenous precipitant. Masturbation has no role in either.
3. Self service leads to unsafe sex practices.
There is no causal link between the two. On the contrary, masturbation leads to release of sexual tension and may help a hesitant person overcome the urge to patronize a commercial sex worker.
4. Self service causes low sperm count.
Wrong. There is no pathological effect on the normal physiology of spermatogenesis, hence no disease or incapacitation results.
5. Self service makes you disrespect people of opposite sex.
Antisocial personality behaviors may manifest disregard or distaste for other people (either sex) but this has no correlation to the practice of masturbation in the subject or controls.
6. Self service is bad because it can be addictive.
Sure it can be addictive just as conventional sex can be. The former is not worse than the latter and both subjects can benefit from seeing a sexologist.
7. Self service causes stunted growth and weight loss.
This is entirely false. Virgins don’t necessarily grow into giants or obese and newlyweds don’t suddenly become emaciated. This is a myth.
8. Self service causes infertility.
Wrong. As long as a man’s reproductive system is functional, he does not get damaged from masturbation and female masturbation has no link to infertility. Masturbation is not a disease and it is not abnormal.
9. Self service causes cancers and other chronic disorders.
Most of the harmful effects of masturbation exist only in the imagination of repressed people. There is no medical disorder that results from self service.
10. Self service leads to sexually transmitted diseases.
Obviously, this is incorrect. It is called “transmited” because it is from one person to another.

So without prejudice, this is not to promote a position or moral view. It is to share a well established level of health fact. It is unfair in this age to consciously spread baseless myths in order to promote a self-righteous moral or religious leaning.

My take on this issue is that whatever that rocks your world shouldn't be over done. Even too much sex is bad (especially for broke niggaz)
