Police nab fraudster, recover 25 million fake dollars

Police have arrested a man who allegedly specialized in printing fake currencies.





Recovered from the suspect, whose name was given as Kunle Amuda were, fake $25 million and 985,000 pounds sterlings. Confirming the arrest and recovery of the fake the monies, the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of Zone 2 Command, Onikan, Lagos, Mr. Muhammed Abubakar, said there was no difference between the fake currencies and the genuine ones.

Displaying the currencies, packed in a stainless box, before journalists, Abubakar explained that detectives from his command raided the suspect’s house at Ojodu, Lagos, where he was arrested and a stainless box and a bag recovered.

He said on examination of the bag and box, 254 bundles of $100 denomination, totaling $25,400,000, and another 197 bundles of 50 pounds denomination, totalling 9,85,000, were found.

According to him, during interrogation, the suspect confessed that all the currencies were brought from Switzerland.

He said the police would contact the International Police INTERPOL, to assist his command in tracking down other members of the syndicate who are outside the country.

The AIG warned people to be careful of persons they patronize.

He said: “I am advising people to go to licensed Bureu de Change operators or the banks, to exchange currencies, as fake currencies are currently in circulation.”

Abubakar also revealed how one Akintunde Ajayi was arrested for illegally transferring N12,486,097 and N7,998,562.31 respectively, using different account names and numbers.
