STOP COUNTERFEITING AND PIRACY (SCAP)
SCAP is open to all individuals, companies and organizations, large and small, committed to the fight against counterfeiting and piracy. Participants are invited to endorse SCAP objectives, contribute to the development of SCAP projects and lend their organizations name to the SCAP growing list of supporters. We are poised to bring the gap between advocacy and enforcement.
SCAP MISSION
To connect the business community, individuals and non-governmental organisations across the country so as to more efficiently identify and address intellectual property rights (IPR) issues and petition for greater commitments by local, state and federal government agents in the enforcement and protection of brands against counterfeiting and piracy.
SCAP OBJECTIVES
• Increase public and political awareness and understanding of counterfeiting and piracy activities and the associated economic and social harm.

• Compel government action and the allocation of resources towards improved IPR enforcement.

• Create a culture change where intellectual property is respected and protected.

SCAP seeks to accomplish these objectives by:

• Connecting ongoing business activities, business strategies and messages.

• Producing information and products that have value to corporations and trade associations across sectors.

• Providing a platform for leveraging ongoing and new business initiatives through use of the business network and contacts with regulatory agencies; network of media relationships; and relationships with non governmental organizations.

Additionally, companies and organizations are invited to:
• Provide in-kind support, by contributing to the drafting of materials, translating documents, participating on implementation teams, hosting stakeholder events and organizing legislative initiatives or educational workshops nationwide.
• Financially support the initiative. Recognizing the differing objectives and abilities of companies and organizations, CS is categorically seeking participation and support for the SCAP initiative at the following levels:

SCAP NATIONAL LEADERSHIP GROUP
The formation of the SCAP National Leadership Group is critical to building awareness, strengthening SCAP statements to the media, adding weight to interventions with inter-governmental organizations, amplifying the lobby effort with the three arms of government, and generating the core financial resources for the national SCAP initiative.
Participants:
CEO’s, senior corporate officers of companies and individuals lending their name (and participation as appropriate) and representatives from the local chambers of commerce as well as non-governmental organisations.
Responsibilities:
• Lend name in support of SCAP.
• As appropriate and convenient, CEO’s in the SCAP National Leadership Group would be invited/encouraged to accept high-level media interviews and prominent speaking engagements,
• Nominate a representative to the SCAP Steering Committee.
• Option to send senior representative to SCAP NLG meetings.
• Contribute toward financing core SCAP activities, including development and deployment of SCAP products and publicity, and outreach activities.

SCAP STEERING COMMITTEE
The Steering Committee brings expertise and a wide, cross-sector approach to the SCAP initiative. It establishes SCAP implementation priorities and strategy to deliver value to, and leverage the ongoing efforts of, companies and associations working nationwide against counterfeiting and piracy.
Participants:
Representatives appointed by members of the National Leadership Group; and select non-governmental organizations and representative of regulatory bodies.
Responsibilities:
• Provide policy and issue expertise and guidance on SCAP operations, including implementation priorities and strategy.
• Shape the SCAP message and program direction
