Cost And Materials To Fence These Plots by Nobody: 5:51pm On Mar 20, 2015
Can I get assistance on cost and material breakdown to get this fence built using 6" blocks?

Thanks all.

The nos of blocks that you will use depend on how high you want the fence to be. Standard is 12coaches. How many coaches high do you want the fence to be.

Let's say 4 for now.

Thanks.

Thanks.

You'll need 1800 blocks, 40 bags of cement, one 20 tonnes sharp sand.

You can get the cost for the blocks, cement, labor around your area.

Expect you'll like us to do it for you.

I want you to do this yourself.

1) Calculate the total girth of the plot(s)
2. Less the length of the gate (~3 metres)
3) Divide the figure by 0.45 and that's gonna give you an approximate number of sandcrete blocks on each coach.
4) Multiply this number by the number of coaches you want (you said 4) and you'll get required number of sandcrete blocks.

Simple arithmetic!

By the way why do you wanna use 6" blocks? 9" should be the ideal width for a perimeter fence.

Thanks for the info, I'll attempt the calculations.

As for block size, the ideal size is what is necessary and 6" is ideal for me. I don't put much stock in block wall and simply doing this as a stop gap measure due to outside influences.

Granite/gravel?

A 5cu of gravel / granite will do the job.

Like I said cost depends on material cost in your area.

Horizontal girth : 15 + 15 + 15 + 15 = 60m
Vertical girth = 38 + 38 + 38 = 114m
Height of building = 3.0m

Total girth = 114 + 60 = 174m
Total area = 174 x 3 = 522m2

There are 10blocks/m2

Number of blocks required = 5220blocks
Allowance for breakage and cross brazed= 6000blocks

Cement: Assuming a bag a cement to lay 70blocks/ bag of cement
No of bags = 6000/70 = 83 bags
Use 100 bags

Sharp sand required using mortar thickness of 10mm = (0.45 + 0.225 + 0.15) x 0.01= 0.0165cubic meter

0.00825 x 6000 x 1.2 = 59.4m3
Tonnes of sand required = 59.4 x 1.6 = 95.04tonnes

Thank you.

What's a prudent cost for labor? Including setting, digging, etc.

Once again, thanks and I was looking forward to your participation since you always give concise answers.

Labour cost
Rate of setting block = N40/ block
6000 x 40 = N240,000

Excavation of 450mm x 450mm
Rate @ N 300/m
140 X 300 = N42,000
