An Abeokuta Magistrates’ Court yesterday remanded a 27-year-old man, Ahmed Jimoh, in prison for allegedly punching his girlfriend, Omoyeni Oluga to death.

The prosecutor, Inspector Augustine Ozimini, told the court that the accused committed the offence on February 3, 2015 at about 8:35a.m. at Oke-Itoku in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Ozimini alleged the accused unlawfully killed 18-year-old Oluga with his fist. “The accused and his girlfriend had a disagreement at the accused’s residence that led to a fight, which eventually caused the death of the girl, “he said.

The prosecutor said the alleged offence contravened Section 319 of the Criminal Law of Ogun, 2006. However, the plea of the accused was not taken by the court. Instead, Magistrate Emmanuel Adekunte ordered that he should be remanded in Ibara Prison, pending the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutor (DPP) on the matter and adjourned the matter till May 5, 2015 for further hearing.
