One Year After Tragedy Struck Ugulangu Village by lurdpreshy: 10:36pm On Apr 11, 2015 |
The people of Ugulangu village, Ebonyi state today marked 1 year since the devastating tragedy that struck the village and turned the people bemused thus of the strange happenings that led to the death of king Eze Ajar, a well respected and influential traditional village figure. Ugulangu village is popularly known to be a predominantly very traditional village with 90% of the inhabitants’ non-religious, rather being religiously devoted believers and pilgrims of the“Oliye Ajur” mystical shrine. It can be deduced from the villagers that the shrine possesses mystical powers with the ability to provide gratification to people in need. The chief priest of the shrine is believed to be able to conjure the Gods of the shrine who can fulfill the wishes of anyone who sought prayers and worship at the shrine. It can be recalled that Kenneth Nwabor, a native of the village and a self-proclaimed reborn Christian whose evangelical mission to rid the village of “ungodliness” in fact ended of changing the village forever. Kenneth who was only 21 years old took it upon himself to set the shrine on fire when his attempts to preach towards Christianity fell on deaf ears. What left most bewildered is the young man’s bravery to engage King Eze Ajar, a scuffle which resulted to the accidental plummet of the King who was trying to prevent him from setting the shrine on fire. The King was later pronounced death at the village local clinic due to injuries he sustained from the fall. Kenneth Nwabor’s parents, Paul and Flourence Nwabor expressed their disbelief that their son was capable of causing such havoc. “we raised Kenneth to believe and trust in “Oliye Ajur” (name of the mystical shrine) because he has blessed us abundantly. We needed a son and Oliye Ajur gave us Kenneth, but only to become a curse”. Said Flourence who could not contain her tears when asked about the incident. Meanwhile, Kenneth is nowhere to be found since his escape from police custody. Be as it may, his family has declared him an outcast. While the village rebuilds it’s religious mishaps, it seem the cursed Kenneth is much part of that process. The chief claimed that Kenneth is required to be killed and have his blood used in religious sacrifice to give the Gods of the shrine the honorable respite. Whether that will be possible is yet to be ascertained, what is certain is that the residents of the village still cannot come to terms with what happened while they desperately search for what they referred to as “evil-possessed insane” young man. more details will be posted as a legible information is gotten
