From Ilorin to Abeokuta
So here we are going for the nikkah of Dr Sherriffdeen and
sister Habeebah. The first problem was going to Kwara
express not knowing they had no bus for the city 'under the
rock'. We found our way to sawmill Park, Ilorin. Here we got
a bus heading to our destination. Not too long one Baba
Ibeji and one man started insulting and cursing another.
Baba Ibeji with his big tummy shouted at the other man
furiously and both men refuse to let go. What amuse me
here is the fact that the reason for the exchange of words is
because of a third person. Finally we would leave. The bus
was filled. Madness started when the driver started driving
with a dangerous theatrics. He swerved, sped and stepped
on the brake for no obvious reason. To make matters worse,
he stopped for over 25 minutes at Ibadan to collect money
from another fellow. When passengers complained he said
"I'll just refuse to continue the journey" . From here
passengers only started praying and stopped complaining
for we are convinced he is not in the right 'sense'. Little did
we know the best, in this case the 'most horrible', is for the
last. On entering ogun-state, we got to a check Point and as
it is the norm the driver paid one 'Emmanuel Haruna' off.
What was interesting is the fact that he was convenient that
he went to his safe in the bush to give the driver change. By
the way we were watching closely for it all seemed
interesting. Trouble started when Emmanuel the policeman
believed one of us took his picture. He shouted, screamed
and bragged. The phone was produced and with his picture
not found, his superior allowed us leave. Finally myself
Abdulkareem Toyyib Oladimeji, Mubashir Adamson and
Abdulrahman Olayemi Kolapo are in Abeokuta but the faces
of Emmanuel Haruna, Baba Ibeji and the 'high' driver are
etched into our memory.
