TechRez writes: Qualcomm is rumoured to use Samsung in realizing the powerful Snapdragon 820 chip which would provide extra power to smartphones launching next year. It was earlier speculated that Sony would be using the Snapdragon 820 on the hotly anticipated Xperia Z4. This news puts such speculations to shame, coupled with the official announcement of the Xperia Z4 on Sony’s Japanese website, which showed the device retained the Snapdragon 810 chip.

Meanwhile, Samsung seem to be getting loved recently, Apple has also contracted it’s next-gen A9 chip to the South Korean company.

The fallout between Qualcomm and TSCM might not be unconnected with overheating experienced on the Snapdragon 810 after continuous usage. This eventually led to the loss of customers and Qualcomm isn’t going to take another risk with the Snapdragon 820.

The company may have gone the way of Samsung, following Samsung’s success with the Exynos 7 chip which powers the Galaxy S rage of smartphones.

While TSMC uses 20nm transistors, Samsung uses 14nm transistors, which makes the Exynos having the edge in terms of power and processing. This means that there’s efficiency in battery usage.

Qualcomm is fast asleep. When they released the SD820, expect a beastly soc from Samsung which would be used in the Note 5 with custom cores codenamed "Mongoose".
