I don't really understand how this PSN works. If its online, then I suppose any one anywhere in the world can register as long you own a PS3, right? Like I said earlier, I've been told PSN is only available in Europe and America. [/b]And possibly South Africa.

Buying some things from the [b]PSN store is where location restrictions usually come in. To play online, you get your free PSN account from anywhere in the world and you are good to go.
As Sauron said, each game developer implements their game server separate from Sonys' PSN server. You login to the PSN server, then you play your online game on the specific games' server.

and install on your PS3. simple.

I personally prefer to create an account on the US PSN store so i can grab demos available to that region.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your efforts as I'm a newbie to gaming/PS3. I'm getting a PS3 160 GB from the US - should be delivered shortly. So basically I hook it up to my HDTV, connect to my wireless router, go online and then register a US PSN account from Nigeria, right? And the Playstation Network will allow me register from Nigeria but I may not be able to purchase certain items from the Playstation Store due to my location? Thanks again for your patience in enduring my multiple questions.

Also, what do you guys think about the PS3 Eye? Useful accessory or unnecessary waste of money? I'm told there are very few interesting games available in which the eye is really needed.

Yes, you can register a US or EU PSN account from nigeria(or both with 2 different email addresses). People do it alot to get Demos which are only released in specific PSN stores.
The Ps3 eye toy is used by most games as a camera to upload your picture. Really few others use its motion feature.
My opinion would be not to buy it, but it's my bias since I'm not into those sort of games. Maybe someone who has used it can give you some pros to owning one.

Add SingStar, Guitar Hero and RockBand to games kids might enjoy. custom accessories are needed for maximum fun.

Yup, PS3 is the best console out there now.

Backward comapatibility was only in the launch PS3's I got mine then so I can play PS2 games, Priceless. ;Dlol Has anyone tried Playstation Home yet? It was fun when they first released it , but now it's BORING.lol

I think Home was boring when it first came out. I was on there only when I was totally bored and couldn't sleep.
It's a good money maker for Sony though. An avenue for companies to pitch their wares.
Anyway, Home still has its fans. And they enjoy it.

What i do with my ps3:

Gaming
Bluray/DVD
Internet - works best with wireless keyboard
Laptop to ps3 (wireless)- Watch all my downloaded US TV shows and DVDs from TV, also use it for Music/Pics. - I currently stream using GMS(Google Media Server)

There's a store at Silverbird Galleria(i am assuming u stay in Lagos).

I thought everyone has got a HDTV in Nigeria.
One can never enjoy the full benefits of PS3 without playing it on Hi-Definition TV.
SCART cable on PS3 is short-changing one's self.
