Why was the previous Ps3 thread locked?

I recently bought the PS3 80BG.
Its more than a game console, its a technological invention.

Try playing ur Blue ray discs on the PS3, plugged to ur LCD. Pure heaven.
Playing FIFA 09 is now addictive. Now the PS3 makes the PS2 look like garbage.

All PS3 lovers, holla back.

Two guys turned that thread into a pissing contest. Cursing each other out.

I have a PS2. Since I got the PS3, I've only turned the PS2 on once. It's like the PS3 has made me intolerant to non-HD graphics.
I'll have to play the PS2 when I have time though. Because I still have God of war 2 not played.
Anyway, I play PES09, MotorStorm 2, GT5P, LBP a some others.
Very little time these days. School is in the drivers seat.

But why didn't they make the PS3 capable of playing PS2 discs? That would have been really cool.

Seriously, since i came back to Naija, can't play online games, dial up connection is so slow. Really frustrating.
It takes so much time to even log on to NL. If i go to the US/UK anytime soon, i'll buzz u on the Devils thread.
I still got skillz, i'm sure u'll beat me though.

Some earlier discontinued versions play PS2 games.

I don't play anything other than the fifa football series. From 05 to 09.
Have other games for the kids though, MDK, Metal Gear Solid, F1, Quantum of Solace etc

I thought Metal Gear Solid was an M-rated game? Unless your kids are >18 years old they shouldn't be playing that

The PS3 is pretty nice, not sure i'll go into superlatives like ' pure Heaven' etc, but it's convenient to have a game console easily serve as a multimedia device.
What i like best about it is it's region free gaming. My Xbox 360 is NTSC and since i travel mainly in Europe it's hard to get new games. The PS3 will play anything you throw at it, though.

I remember the problems MANHUNT caused in the UK in 2004.
A kid stabbed his mate and when he was asked why he did it, the poor kid said it was because i played MANHUNT on PS2.
Trust the media, they got the game out of the shelves within minutes thus stirring the curiousity of other PS2 fans.
People who already owned the game went on Ebay selling it at 10 times the price. . . .Buyers were disappointed after paying thru their nose.

If its not available in naija, then how does one download firmware updates etc? Can they be downloaded from the web?

What about Playstation Store? Will they accept Zenith Bank credit card to buy games or music?

There's a commentary throughout the PES 2009 game(although very inferior to FIFA09).
I will advise you get FIFA games cos people with super-fast broadband in the UK still complain about lagging problems on Konami games.
In Nigeria, it would take an act of God for online gaming to PLAY well on KONAMI. FIFA's EA servers appear to be more effective.
Playing FIFA 09 on PS3 is like watching a LIVE GAME on SKYSPORTS with good commentaries from Andy Gray/Martin Tyler.

System updates are free and u get notifications to download on your PS3.
Recent football news, injuries and Premiership results are displayed too but u need a fast broadband service for convenience.
I have not played online from Nigeria before but ma educated guess would be with a Visa/Mastercard, u should be able to buy whatever u want.

PSN registration is free. . . . .Connect ur PS3 online(wireless/ethernet) and register.
U cannot play online without registering but u can play the game without a PSN registration.

U will be able to register online cos it's free. There is no need for EA to restrict Naija IP addresses.

I'm a little confused. I'm actually talking about the Playstation Network servers. I imagine these are controlled by Sony Computer Entertainment since EA is just a game maker, right? Does EA have its own servers for its games?

Anyway, my question right now is - if PSN is available in South Africa, can PS3 owners in Nigeria can register on PSN using SCE's servers in South Africa?

I don't really understand how this PSN works. If its online, then I suppose any one anywhere in the world can register as long you own a PS3, right? Like I said earlier, I've been told PSN is only available in Europe and America. And possibly South Africa.

The EA servers in South Africa are owned by EA sports.
To play me online with FIFA 09, you need the EA servers in South Africa to make that happen.
This is why i am not sure if Konami(PES developers) have a server in Africa but i know EA SPORTS have a base in South Africa.
Ever since the online gaming are incorporated into games, all the game makers have introduced the use of servers to connect PS3 gamers all over the world.
