North-South College of Health Technology (NSCHT), Ajase-Ipo, Kwara State, a government approved private institution and Fully Accredited programmes is inviting suitably qualified candidates who possess SSCE / NECO / GCE / NAPTEB or related qualification to apply for admissions into the following programmes and courses of the College:

The College is offering the following professional and short term programmes under different departments.

Department of Community Health

The department offers a professional diploma for Community Health Extension Workers and a certificate programme for Junior Community Health Extension Workers. This Diploma and certificate programmes in Community Health is geared towards providing the necessary manpower for quality and effective health service delivery to the people of Nigeria and member countries of the ECOWAS Region for quality and effective service delivery through Community Health Practice. It is envisaged that the course will produce graduates with a broad based scientific and professional knowledge and sound understanding of community health and primary health care issues as practiced in the ECOWAS region and globally. They are expected to fill the needed gap of health workers at the Primary Health Care as well as difficult and the hard to reach areas of the country and by extension, West Africa.

Professional Diploma in Community Health (CHEW)
Candidates intending to undergo the professional Diploma in Community Health Programme must satisfy the relevant Institution’s National requirements as approved by the Professional Regulatory body. Candidate must possess five credit passes in not more than two sittings in WASSC, NECO, GCE or their equivalent Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination in the following subjects: English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Health Sciences and any of Physics, Geography and Economics. On successful completion of the programme, graduates are awarded the Professional Diploma in Community Health.

The Total Duration of Training is Three years (6 Semesters) with College/classroom work of two years and practical placement/Internship is 12 months. The system of Practical placement is 70% community based and 30% health facility based.

Certificate programme for Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEW)
Candidates intending to undergo the JCHEW Programme must possess five ordinary passes in not more than two sittings in WASSC, NECO, GCE or their equivalent Secondary School Leaving Certificate Examination. The passes should include: English Language, Mathematics and Biology or Health Science. The duration of training is two years of intensive theoretical and practical training. On completion of the programme, successful students are awarded the certificate for Junior Community Health Extension Workers.

DEPARTMENT OF DENTAL THERAPY

The department is set up with the larger goal of training Dental Technicians and Dental Surgery practitioners who are trained to assist dentist and technologists in the practice of dentistry. They are exposed to different sessions of training on how to perform local anesthesia, restorations, cleaning, extractions and the taking of radiographs as well as tooth scaling and polishing in line with dental regulations.

Dental Surgery Technicians
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess five credits in SSCE, GCE O’ Level from English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at not more than 2 sittings. The duration of training is three years of 2 years intensive theory and 12 months practical training. On completion of the programme, successful students are awarded the Dental Surgery Technician Certificate.

Dental Surgery Assistants
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess minimum of four credits in SSCE, GCE O’ Level from English and any three from Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at not more than 2 sittings. The duration of training is two years of 1 year’s intensive theory and 12 months practical training. On completion of the programme, successful students are awarded the Dental Surgery Assistant Certificate.

Department of Environmental Health

The department offers a direct Higher National Diploma Programme in Environmental Health for Environmental Health Technologists and professional diploma for Environmental Health Technician. These programmes are aimed at developing the needed manpower to control the various factors in human’s environment (physical, chemical, biological) which exercises a deleterious effect on his/her social, psychological and emotional well-being. It is envisaged that the course will produce graduates with a broad based scientific and professional knowledge and sound understanding of Environmental health and emerging health issues associated with human existence in his environment.


Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess five credits in SSCE, GCE O’ Level from English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at not more than 2 sittings. The duration of training is four years of 3 years intensive theory and one year practical training. On completion of the programme, successful students proceed on a 12 months internship programme and on completion of the internship are awarded Higher National Diploma in Environmental Health.


Professional Diploma for Environmental Health Technician
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess four credits in SSCE, GCE O’ Level from English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry at not more than 2 sittings. A pass or credit pass in Physics will be an added advantage. The duration of training is three years of 2 years intensive theory and 12 months practical training. DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH INFORMATION MANAGEMENT

The department offers 3 years programme for health information management technician and a four years programme leading to a national and higher national diploma in health information management. The programme is designed to produce graduates who can apply the science of informatics to the collection, storage, use, and transmission of information to meet the legal, professional, ethical and administrative records keeping requirements of health care delivery in Nigeria and by extension, West Africa.


National Diploma in Health Information Management:-
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess five credits in SSCE, GCE O’ Level from English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at not more than 2 sittings. The duration of training is 3 years of 2 years intensive theory and one year practical training. On completion of the programme, successful students proceed to the Higher National Diploma of the programme. On completion students are awarded Higher National Diploma in Health Information Management.

Professional Certificate for Health Information Technicians:-
Candidates wishing to undergo the programme must possess five credits in SSCE, NECO, GCE, NABTEB, O’ Level. Three of which must be from English, Mathematics and Biology at not more than 2 sittings. The duration of training is 3 years of 2 years intensive theory and one year practical training. DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL STUDIES:-
This department holds the following programme including short time tailored-made courses.

Diploma in Health Education:-
The programme is a two year full time and three year part time programme leading to the award of a diploma in Health Education. Candidates wishing to enter for the programme must possess a minimum of five credits passes at Senior Secondary School Certificate Level/GCE O-Level in the following subjects: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and at least a pass in Physics at not more than two sittings. For professionals in the education or health care industries, a Health Education Diploma may prove to be a valuable supplement to universities degrees in nursing, and teaching. This career diploma will provide specific training in the promotion of healthy living behaviours of which skills are beneficial to schools, health care practices, and the general community. The course provides a solid foundation for students who wish to progress in the health education career. Opportunities abound for successful students who wish to progress on direct entry to health education related degree programmes at the university.


Health Assistant (Clinical) Certificate Course (Weekends Only)
This knowledge improvement programme is designed for ward orderlies or auxiliary attendants who are employed at hospitals and basic health centres but who has no formal training to carry out the responsibilities they are exposed to in their daily interaction with Medical Doctors, Nurses and other health workers on duty daily. The course will educate them to understand simple techniques and how the hospital service and health care facility setting but does not make them a professional. Those interested in this programme must produce a letter of recommendation from their immediate boss or supervisor or show evidence of completion of junior secondary school or any pass grade at secondary school certificate attempted. The duration of the programme is 12 months.
