Apart from the Armed forces, police, NSCDC and other public security agencies, individuals, communities and companies also have powers to provide security though in a limited capacity.
A look around us from our residence, offices, factories, hotels, public and private buildings etc discloses an array of security guards in varying uniforms.
The private security personnel are not authorized to bear arm therefore in situations where force is required, they fall back to public security.
It is unarguable that these men and women contribute to safety and security of person, equipment, national and private assets.

several infrastructure ranging from factory machinery, goods/ merchandise, marine, telecommunication, oil/gas equipment all of which impart our daily lives are mostly guarded by private security personnel across Nigeria.

This tread is intended to create awareness about the condition of operation, condition of service and welfare of such men and women who find themselves in this sector.
This tread has become necessary as most of the men/ women in this sector do not the capacity to champion their cause and as such suffer untold hardship, silently though, in the discharge of their responsibilities and in making ends meet.

Comparative analysis of the above with what is obtainable abroad will also be appreciated.

Thank you

we would welcome opinions, contributions, criticism and suggestions on the best way to make private security guarding more effective and rewarding.

most of these private security guard works like elephant and eat like ant because they are under contract, and when their employer collects a huge amount of money from the client, they will now be paying the security guard who is doing the job peanuts and thats very bad.
