A computer science and information technology graduate from a university in Cotonou, Anidi Reginald, has landed in police net for car snatching in Enugu.

Anidi, 27 years old, is said to have graduated from the university in 2013.

The suspect, from Enugwu Eke in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, was arrested by officers of the Ogui Division after he and members of his gang snatched a Honda Pilot car, with registration number AAA 598 CH, from the owner at gunpoint.

The incident occurred at Ozalla, in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state on Saturday, by 11.00am.

It was gathered that the suspect and members of his gang, who are currently at large, had, after snatching the vehicle from the owner, headed towards Enugu metropolis. But, unknown to them, the victim had already alerted the police, who chased the vehicle down to Presidential Road, where a gun battle ensued between the policemen and the gang.

Anidi was eventually apprehended, while other members of the gang escaped, after the police overpowered the hoodlums in the gun battle.

The Public Relations Officer of the Enugu State Police Command, Ebere Amaraizu, who confirmed the development, said an automatic pump action gun, one cut-to-size English-made single barrel gun, and cartridges were recovered from Anidi.

Amaraizu said the suspect was currently helping the police in an ongoing investigation into the activities of the gang.

The police spokesman further disclosed that the vehicle had been returned to the owner.

The suspect reportedly blamed his action on peer influence and unemployment.

Someone who thought school was to help him make money....not to help him make something out of his life through service to others.

One school motto I saw in Nigeria...

Enter to learn.

Leave to serve.

Graduates....you went to school to get the tools you need to serve society....not to be some big man or woman sitting down in a big house with slaves...before you turn thirty.

An idle hand is a devil's workshop. A bane of unemployment in Nigeria!. Entrepreneurship is the way to go.

Stealing should not be excused with unemployment. A lot of unemployed persons see some jobs as demeaning, forgetting that one should start from somewhere. l can't forget the UNN Economics graduate who was frying Yam, Akara, Potatoes and Plantain near my uncle's shop at the Mile 12 market Lagos in the 90's. He said after 3 years of graduation and no job he really had to sit down and reflect on his life.

He said if his poor uneducated mother could pay his way through school through her frying of akara and selling pap, what excuse did he have. He was one of the early people that started frying these finger foods using gas in that enclosed structure on wheels way back in the 90's and from his first unit, he had several units within Mile 12 market operated by boys he brought from his village. His neatness attracted patronage and made fortune from it and did buy expanse of land in lkorodu when it was offered for less than N100k per plot. He has moved on from that business.

Nigeria is tough but we need to toughen our brains in the right direction!

When there's no employment, you employ yourself. We've been told to use our brain. It's just unfortunate that it has to be robbery. You should have steal since stealing is not corruption or an offence in Nigeria

There are always inexhaustible ways and means to make legitimate money. Lucky Dube said "Crime does not pay!" In another news: https://www.nairaland.com/2325489/buhari-appoints-own-reuben-abati Do you believe in a better Nigeria?

this is a very mundane and stupid reason for anyone to engage in crime . So because ppl are been paid peanuts as salaries that is enough reason to engage in crime? If the owner of the vehicle happens to be ur father and they accidentally killed him ,will u blame the actions of the robber on poor salaries structure in the country?? Even the robber himself has no excuse ,there are ppl with poor background and who are struggling hard to make it in life legally.
