I dont think I'll bother much if I should lose my account token cos the person who stole it will still require my password to access my account. How much careful can you be.. Imagine having someone with a questionable attitude staying with you in the same house.. While asleep, the person gains access to your wallet containing your atm card and mobile phone... The person can easily do a transfer and recharge, delete sms alerts and you wont know and still return your wallet back.

have u considered loosing your wallet with your token too? whats important is to becareful. no technology benefit without limitations!

I don't use my phone for any such

I prefer the dual authentication of password and token provided by the intenet banking platform
The good news about your 737 code is that your liability is limited to 20k daily. that way u can act if u r compromised

Hmmmmm, the 20k is a big lot of money
Re: GTB Mobile Money Transfer - How Secure Is It? by ismogimo: 9:56am On May 26, 2015
That is one bad thing about the service. should the card get lost together with one's phone, one stands the risk of losing 20k and that is even if one is able to report the case that same day. Am even thinking about smartly erasing the last 4digits off the back of the card and keep it in my head and some other safe places. But is still good since it can only be done on your registered line with the bank. That 20k no b change o

I recently made use of GTB mobile transfer using the code #737#2 to transfer money to a First Bank account and the only security measure they had in place was to ask me to input the last 4-digits on my ATM card.

After a successful transaction, I wondered to myself if this platform is truly the "smartest" as they claim. Yea, it may be smart, but is it secure? What if I lose my bag containing my wallet (with my ATM cards) and mobile phones? Wouldn't the hoodlum be able to transfer money easily from my account to any account of his choice with no hassle before I can block the ATM?

This bothered me and I thought to share it here. I expect GTB to make this more secure by requesting for pin before money can be transferred.

What do you guys think?
Tgirl4real:
It is not an app. I never subscribed to mobile banking with GTB. All you need to do is dial *737*1* (acct and amt) for GTB accounts and *737*2* for other banks with the line you used to open your account. Just like buying recharge direct from your account using your mobile phone.
I have tried to google it to know exactly what this service is called.

So simple process and may not be secure. Careless mistake will make your acct empty without any trace within few seconds. You shouldn't have registered your account for internet banking. Mobile application can be more secure for transactions and serve you better. You just need to load the mobile wallet from your main accout with the amount you need over a period of time, and with your ATM card you can do that at any time

I have tried it and I can assure u it is quite secured cos there is no how u could do transfer without the phone number you use to open your account with the bank. The recipient will receive the credit alert using ur phone number as d sender and not ur bank details. I wod have uploaded a sample but for security reasons. SHALOM!

the platform is very secure and safe #1 to initiate any transaction on your account you need to register your phone number with GTBank meaning that unregistered GSM number will not be able to transact
#2 all transaction made on the platform have reference that is the beauty of BVN if hoodlums hijacks your phone nd ATM any account that receives money will be track with BVN let me stop here

But not all accounts are registered for BVN, I think mandatory registration still extends to the end of June.

Chief, you should know that Nigerians are very smart people. One can steal you mobile phone and atm card, transfer the money to someone else's account and have them withdraw it for them...

A good lesson here... The need to verify source of money getting to one's account before being withdrawn for someone claiming to have used the account.

Hi mcfynest, longtym.

It doesn't require a pin. Anyone that has access to your phone and ATM can transfer money from your account without your permission.

I do not know why people think that BVN is even that secure and will somehow prevent thieves. Necessity is the mother of invention, they will simply re-innovate and continue what they have been doing.

Yes, BVN not withstanding, the GTB phone transfer are is very risky.

This will just allow thieves to milk more victims....take a case, where someone is held against their will and their ATM card taken and forced to divulge their PIN...and the thieves holds them until they bleed their account to red....If the account is red, all the thief need not hold another victim against their will...target GTB account holders, snatch their phone and ATM card, transfer money to your previous victim's account and continue milking the funds out of that account.

Now, before this GTB none-sense, they would have released their victim after their account reached red....but with this, they can hold out hopes for additional exploits without leaving a trace, BVN or no BVN.

And the BVN thing, gives people a false sense of security, people can disfigure their fingerprint, google 'change my fingerprint' you will be surprise that, you can order a kit for that, then disguise do a facelift, approach any bank, do your registration and BVN with your new identity....approach multiple banks with different identities and fingerprints and open multiple accounts and the yahoo yahoo guys are back in business as usual.

This makes me sound Heh! So technology has gone beyond thwarting and faking physical appearance to faking the whole human beings - their organs and body system, all for criminal behaviors.

What you are saying is not clear. I didn't say I registered for anything. This is a free for all service. Registered or not, anyone with access to your ATM and registered mobile no can transfer funds from your account.

I think you should continue cos I am still not convinced how this is secure. The registered no is the no you opened your account with and it will most likely be your primary no.

The more we look at it, the more I see its loopholes. GTB needs to make some adjustments or scramp it totally. I guess with GTB, we need to be more protective of our ATM cards.

It wasn't registered for ke! You mean it's just automatic to access the account and move the money out, even without the concept of the owner of the account? That's very bad, and means they create an avenue to defraud rather to securely transact business with the mobile account.

GTBank should either stop or ensure the platform is secure as a matter of urgency.

It's safe, unless the thief knows your pin. It is the same as losing your bank card, the card will be useless to a thief unless the thief knows your pin.

Use the mobile transfer, it's convinient and safe. Memorize your pin and your bank account will be safe. Make sure you install an anti-virus app (Avast is good and free) to protect your mobile device against nasty virus and malware.

Also make sure your mobile device is encrypted with a password. If your encrypted device is lost, nobody can use it without a password. All modern mobile devices have this embedded security feature.

You guys keep mixing things up. This is different from the normal mobile banking where you need to download an app. This one doesn't use a pin, only the last 4-digits on your ATM card.

Oops! I didn't read the post well, sorry. Using the last 4 digits of your atm card is totally wrong and unsafe! Anyone who steals your bag that contains your card and unencrypted mobile device, can easily empty your bank account.

For a bank to do this is reprehensible! They should have created another layer of pin security, for a user-created pin.

FROM AN EX-GTB C/S STAFF

Firstly, it is different from mobile banking, it Is called SMS banking. So it works with any phone even nokia touchlight phones.

Its doesn't require network access.

Back to your question about someone stealing ur ATM card..even if someone steals your card he won't be able to use it successfully BECAUSE the platform only recognises u and ur registered phone number with the bank the last 4digit they always ask for is just an extral security measures.

My advice to you is that once your card I'd stolen go to the nearest bank and notify them to block it irrespective of the bank. Ok.
Any further question feel free to hala me 08185060821.
