A good selfie takes a lot of work, usually a
series of well-angled snaps are taken before
the right one is posted all over social media.
The trick to a great selfie is good lighting, a
great a filter and most importantly,
capturing your best side. And the right angle
means exploring your environment.
Unfortunately, most people are now willing
to go to great lengths to take the perfect
snap, even putting their lives in jeopardy.
I have laughed about several selfie trends
that are making waves, but this is honestly
ridiculous, people are risking their lives in
the name of social media.
Just a year ago Kim Kardashian was almost
trampled to death by an elephant while
snapping a selfie!
Here’s a look at five tragic selfie inflicted
accidents:
Sylvia Rajchel
While taking a break from medical school in
Spain, a Polish student lost her footing
attempting to take a selfie on the ledge of
the Puente de Trianna Bridge in Seville. The
23-year-old stumbled and landed on the
bridge’s concrete support system after
falling a shocking 15 feet! I can’t even
imagine the fear of watching yourself fall to
your near death.
Anna Ursu (and her recovering friend)
Two Romanian teenagers planned to take
the selfie of all selfies , i.e. on top of a train.
This is popular in Instagram culture. Anna’s
foot allegedly touched a live wire sent 27
000 volts through her body.
A man who reportedly saw them, before the
incident, attempted to put the flames out.
The 18-year-old died having burned her
entire body while her friend later recovered
at the St Maria hospital.
Iranian car-jamming girls
Two friends decided it would make for plenty
of likes and shares to post a karaoke video
of themselves whilst driving. The video
quickly went viral because the duo was
involved in an accident while jamming to an
Iranian pop song called “Ghorboni.” At one
point the driver has her eyes off the road
and her hands were too busy making hearts.
Surely if you can’t text and drive, then
definitely don’t Insta-vid and drive.

Christine Rosello
A Rizal High School student in Manila,
Philippines fell down a flight of stairs, nine
steps from the third floor to the second,
while posing for a selfie with an energy
drink . Christine was only 13 when she died
at the Rizal Medical Center.
Isabella Fracchiolla
During a field trip to Taranto, a city in
Apulia, Southern Italy, a 16-year-old student
fell 18 meters onto jagged rocks while trying
to take a very risky selfie . Isabella suffered
a series of injuries and doctors were unable
to save her life.
