The 2015/2016 Post-UTME screening examinations and interviews (as the case may be for various institutions) for various Nigerian institutions have been the trending topic for JAMBites seeking admission into the university for a while now.

While some institutions like Bowen University have concluded their screening exams (see Bowen University Post-UTME screening results and 2nd stage details here), many other institutions are yet to begin and are preparing to conduct their screening exams.

This Year’s Post-UTME Craze and What to Expect

Are you writing Post-UTME this year? Then you need to know some of the things to expect. Considering the fact that the number of moderately standard higher institutions of learning in Nigeria does not meet the demand, the competition for admission slots in especially federal universities like University of Ibadan (UI), University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), University of Lagos (UNILAG), Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) and others have been increasing very significantly in the past few years.

This year, the number of candidates qualified to sit for the Post-UTME screening examinations that will be conducted for the 2015/2016 academic session in UNN alone is about 50,719 students and perhaps only about a third of this number will offered admission.

The reason is not because these students are not qualified to merit admission and further their education, rather the reason is ore closely related to the fact that the space and facilities to provide education for that number is limited.

Had there been more standardized institutions of learning like we have in the United States today, this would not have been the case.

In essence, what I’m trying to say is that while you should expect more competition than usual for admission slots as the number will keep adding up until our educational system gets better, do not focus on the competition as you prepare for your exams.

Focusing on the competition which is to be expected will create fear, tension and anxiety that will hamper on your ability to prepare appropriately and affect your composure on the exam day.

Take it from someone that has been there before and did very well in the midst of the competition, putting in your very best in preparation for your Post-UTME exams (don’t be satisfied with anything less than your best) and leaving the rest for God will guarantee you success and distinguish you from your peers.
