Re: Dv-2008 Lottery Starts Soon by idiotsoul: 4:57pm On Sep 15, 2006 |
it is not abolished but some countries will no longer be eligible because their number in the US is reaching a set limit. Nigeria is reaching it quota and will soon be excluded. This year though, I think nigeria is still gona be there. Lets all pray |

Yours trully won the DV lottery visa. I have been living in the US since December 1997. If you have made up your mind to come to the US after winning the DV lottery, I wouldn't advice you not to come, but have it at the back of your mind that you want to return back to Naija. Use the opportunity to get yourself a good education up to graduate level at least and proceed to the Doctorate level if possible. It may not be too rosy, but your status as a permanent resident alien entitles you to some educational aids which I will advice you to take advantage of. At the end of your academic pursuits, go back to explore career opportunities in motherland, where with the right connections, you have the chance of climbing through the corporate ladder. Thats my 2 cents and the advice is for the younger folks out there not someone in the 30's. |

Re: Dv-2008 Lottery Starts Soon by Panache(m): 8:21pm On Sep 18, 2006 |
I do agree with Abeem, the lottery is not for folks in the 40s who will find life difficult if they have to do some of the things they are not used to. I remember a friend who won the lottery, and came to the Us. He had problem with litle chores like going to the kitchen to rinse his hands after meals. Thereis no omodo or here, but honestly it's a system that empowers you to be all you can be. For the young ones, you can get a good education without much stress, get the basics of life, support your family back home and most importantly be independent. When I came here in the mid-90s, it was kind of difficult that Kasali wasn't there to drive me around. From someone who had a company driver, that drives me around Lagos, except on weekends, I had to deal with understanding the basics of a motor car (despite that I had a degree in Engineering). Now I not only know how to do basic stuffs like oil change, I can also work on electrical parts and DIY stuffs inside the house. If you are focussed, you can achieve a lot from your sweat without stealing from the poor ala Nigerian Pocketicians |
