Dear Customer,
The use of Foreign Currency in Nigeria

The use of foreign currency to carry out local business transactions in Nigeria has now been prohibited by the CBN. Hence, it is now illegal for businesses or individuals to offer or accept any currency other than the Nigerian Naira as a means of payment for goods or services rendered.

This means that FCMB will not be able to receive foreign currencies for local transactions. These transactions include fees, licences, charges etc. initiated and completed in Nigeria.

However, if you own a domiciliary account, you can make payments from or deposits into your domiciliary account according to the provision of existing regulations.

Governmental agencies and other operators exempted from this directive include:

- Federal Ports Authority
- Nigerian Ports Authority
- Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agencies
- Federal Airport Authority
- Nigeria Airspace Management
- Nigeria Shippers Council
- Operators in the oil & gas including oil servicing companies
- Operators in the maritime and aviation industries
- Licenced operators in the Export processing and Free Trade Zones
- Any other agency prescribed by the CBN
