Technology has enabled us to communicate real-time, collapsing the barrier of distance. We can by-pass the dogma and the stranglehold on conventional media houses to get the truth out in the open. However, with every yin, there is a yang, and there are scoundrels who use this same avenue to spread rumors and fear among the online population. Each one of us should take it upon ourselves to verify claims, stories and reports before broadcasting such. It is better to be known for consistency and credibility than to be known as a noise-maker. With all the various avenues available to us, if/when any of the channels is closed, we will make use of the others. You can post to facebook and twitter via SMS, should the internet or blackberry service(s) become shunted. So unless the whole country is shut down like North Korea, we will continue to get the word out.
