Onyeachonam conned pensioners out of their life savings but will have to sell his luxury home in Nigeria to pay a Confiscation Order made at the Old Bailey. A conman who tricked pensioners out of their live savings to fund his champagne-fuelled lifestyle will have to hand over his remaining assets to compensate victims.

Frank Onyeachonam - dubbed Fizzy because of his love of champagne - worked from a 'suckers list' to trick people into believing they had won international lotteries before telling them they needed to pay fees and taxes to free up their winnings.

He was jailed for eight years at the Old Bailey last June for fraud and confiscation order made by the court yesterday ordered him to pay victims more than £150,000 using his remaining assets.

He will have to sell his home in Nigeria to pay the sum.

At the height of the fraud the 39-year-old spent a fortune on cars including a Porsche Cayenne, BMW convertible and Maserati, a £2,000-a-month rented flat overlooking the Thames in London’s Docklands, and so much champagne that his nickname was Fizzy.

The spree ended when he was arrested and the police searched his flat.

Fizzy claimed he had nothing to do with the scam but officers found notepads and mobile phones linking him to the scam.

Judge Poulet found he had pocketed almost £1.2m in the scam - in which pensioners were conned out of six-figure life savings.

Garry Crone from the NCA’s Economic Crime Command said: “Onyeachonam previously enjoyed a lifestyle of champagne, designer clothes and fast cars.

"Those days are well behind him, and he can now add the loss of his illicit profits to the loss of his liberty.

"The NCA is determined to prevent criminals from benefitting financially from illegal activity, and we are pleased that in this case, victims will have money returned to them.”

Serves him right. Why should he dupe old people of their savings ? It would have been better to deal with politicians instead.
