Are MBAs Becoming Less Important? by Nobody: 12:30pm On Jun 14, 2015
Interesting blog post from Fortune, which talks about how prominent PE firms such as GTCR are no longer requiring their associates to attend business school. Rather, promising associates are being promoted from within. A similar trend is happening at MBB consulting firms, which used to kick out pretty much every analyst after 2-3 years. Now, a lot of them are staying rather than going to b-school. Pretty interesting trend.

I think the huge costs (tuition keeps going up while median compensation has barely budged) is definitely playing a major role here. In addition, I think the movement towards one-year MBAs, executive MBAs, and specialized masters programs such as mfin/mfe is a real one.

Very true.

We wrote a piece on this topic not too long ago as well. You can find it here: http://www.gainrecruitment.com/to-mba-or-not-to-mba/

MBAs are almost becoming a plain achievement and not a necessity to scale higher up the ranks of employment.

Three things will determine the potency of your MBA !!!

- The Kind of Industry ( For small scale industries, an MBA might not be very useful, especially skill based industries where preference is given to technical acumen/qualifications rather than educational ones, for Multinationals (OEMS), an MBA will always play a crucial role, especially during promotion exercises).

- Years of Experience (This is a constant, your experience would always play a major part. A proper blend of experience and an MBA can give your career the necessary boost required. Infact, some schools make work experience a compulsory requirement before you can even get admitted to do an MBA).

- The School (Yes, you can deny this but its certainly a passive factor in the background, An MBA from Harvard Business School !!! That can solve a lot of problems).

MODS you can do the needful !!! @CrazyMan @1forall
