Maslow's Hierarchy Of Motivational Needs, Outdated! by graciousolo(m): 6:22pm On Jun 16, 2015
For those that don't know what the Maslow's theory of
motivational needs is...

Maslow in his theory suggested that human needs can be represented using a pyramid of hierarchy. they include...

1. Physiological needs; Sex, thirst, hunger.
2. Safety.
3.Love and Belongingness
4. Self esteem and
5. Self actualisation.

He suggested that human must meet the basic needs before achieving the others up the hierarchy.
I have never totally agreed with his theory and these article just supported my arguement.

"Maslow's need hierarchy theory presents the student of work motivation with an interesting paradox," Wahba and Bridwell wrote. "The theory is widely accepted, but there is little evidence to support it."

In their review of the available research, Wahba and Bridwell found that there was little empirical support suggesting that needs exist in a hierarchy at all.

Other critics have also suggested that the original hierarchy does not account for the fact that needs tend to change based on the situation.
Maslow's theory also does not account for differences between individualist and collectivist cultures.

In 2010 some psychologist tried to update Maslows's hierarchy,they placed it this way;

*Parenting takes the top spot, followed by
*.Mate retention,
*Mate acquisition, and
*.Status/esteem.
* Following those needs is affiliation and self-protection.
Immediate physiological needs make up the very base of the pyramid.

My argument is that some people have achieved self esteem, love and belongingness, even without the basic physiological needs.

Do you agree with Maslow's theory or do you think it's outdated?

The Maslow Theory To Infant Feeding Practice
According to Maslow theory, for one to ascend to the next level of need, the lower need has to be satisfied.
