Aero contractors Airlines on Tuesday said its Kaduna-bound plane made emergency landing in Abuja for safety considerations. The Aero flight NG181, which departed Lagos at 6:28pm for Kaduna, was forced to land in Abuja about 50 minutes later when the plane developed fault mid air last week Saturday. The airline in a statement explaining the details of the incident

said the flight crew chose to land in Abuja because the carrier had aircraft maintenance facility in the Federal Capital Territory. The passenger cabin of the Boeing 737-500 aircraft got depressurized and in line with global safe
standard, the flight crew was forced to fly the plane to Abuja at 10,000 feet above sea level. Normally, commercial planes fly at between 25,000 and 40,000 feet above sea level in domestic flights. The Aero statement read, “On Friday, June 5, Aero flight NG181, which departed Lagos at 18:28pm to Kaduna, undertook an emergency landing in Abuja following a depressurisation of the Boeing 737-500 aircraft. “About 25 minutes after takeoff, the cabin got depressurised and based on sound professional training, the pilot descended to 10,000 feet above sea level, the oxygen masks were automatically released from overhead compartments. “Since we have our maintenance base in Abuja, the technical crew diverted the flight and landed in Abuja, while another aircraft was provided for the onward journey of our esteemed passengers. This second aircraft was used for the return journey to Lagos from Kaduna. It further said, “While we regret the trauma our passengers may have suffered as a result of the incident and the consequent delay, we hasten to add that our passengers were not in danger at any point during the incident. “Our technical crew had been trained to handle this kind of situation and we are proud of the professional manner our crew handled the situation and commend them for their expert conduct and maturity.” The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority said it had commenced investigations into the incident.
