Once we have gathered our wits and ready to bounce, with our entire mind seeing nothing but success in what we are about to embark upon; the worst thing that could happen to one’s confidence, gathered over the period of preparation and expectation, is failure.

Imagine when we have tried to make something work by preparing for it, and it still didn’t come out as a success. Imagine being confident that what you were about to do will surely succeed but it didn’t turn out to be so. Failure, at this particular time, is something like a shock that may never be recovered from. One’s confidence goes lean and there is just one outcome in our mind for the next task- failure. So, we tend to cower at the safe corner for the fear of failing the second time. The feeling that we are going to fail again becomes like the wind, and we prefer not to act so as not to fail again.

As much as failure is negative, it is sometimes necessary and thus, a positive thing if one decided to accept that there is still a chance for improvement.

Now, how can we overcome this first defeat, and still forge ahead to continue with the same confidence we wore when the first attempt turned out to be a failure?

RELAX

Everybody fails. Even the most successful people we hear and learn about have a moment of failure in what they now parade as their product of success. You don’t need to rush into the next step of either trying again or trying another one; not especially if you wanted to repeat the same process. Have a time to relax without even thinking of your failure; do something else, but not for a long time whereby you take your mind off the task. This period of a time is when you take a little vacation not more than three days.

EMBRACE FAILURE

Failure is not necessarily a negative thing. Most people tend to disassociate themselves from this outcome, but will only find themselves back right in. if you have taken five steps to a failure, then, failure, which is the outcome is either telling you have taken the wrong step(s), you have taken too many steps, or you should have taken extra steps. Failure simply shows us a better way to do things. Therefore, seeing failure as a negative thing is not an option, but as a negative outcome for a positive reload.

REPLAY

Yes, after you short vacation, you need to sit down and replay the exact process you took that failed. There shout be a link to your failure. You probably didn’t do something right, and you need to figure it out. Have you wondered why referees tend not to see some particular blunders they committed while referring a match until when they watch the replay? Watching the replay makes it easier to learn from their mistakes and probably do it better the next time.

You may eventually realize that you have picked the wrong location, chosen the wrong product, targeted the wrong market, done little or no advertisement and so on. You may realize that you have done the wrong calculation, omitted an equation, followed the wrong step, and overlooked the right formula and so on. If you take your time, you will surely find the link.

BLAME THE MISTAKES

Now that we have understood where we erred, we need to accept the minimal blames here. Of course, we will not deny the fact that we were the ones that miscalculated, but right now, what we don’t need to do is to carry the whole blame by being too hard on ourselves. Psychologically, this may be a tough stain to scrub off if we eventually see ourselves as a failure, someone who couldn’t do it right rather than accepting that the mistakes, which, of course, should have been avoided caused the while failure. For example, our failure to understand that we were targeting the wrong market may be the result of our failure, and so, we need to understand that targeting the wrong market was the mistake and the culprit here. We must refuse to accept that we will always fail because it is easy to do when we decided to carry the whole blame.

REV

This is the time where you get ready for the next step. The only option is to move on, and you need to begin; there is no stopping. Now that we understand the crux of the failure, let us begin by getting ready to restart. Be ready to do it right, prepare the way for the next step. Strike out the mistakes, lay down the new frameworks and be ready for a fresh work. This time around, we are doing it the right way. So, revving is just like gathering potentials for the next task.

SURGE

Yes, we failed, and our shop was closed; now, we are ready to open and we must start with full force. We must be ready to cover for the time wasted while the shop was closed and we must be ready to take over the market this time around. This will only be possible after we have done our research properly this time around. So, let’s surge forward and take the world by surprise.

Remember, failure is not the end, it was just the beginning. And remember, the end result matters. Let’s go all out now, and rewrite the success story.
