First of all decide wether you want to do 3d or 2d ,then we start of from there

you can check out tones of 2d softwares like toonboom, adobe flash, anime studio but toonboom is the best, u can do some stuffs that you cant find in others like the 2dfx module library, cut out animation is also more flexible, then as for 3d, check out autodesk maya, 3dsmax, cinema4d, i use toonboom, maya and 3dsmax, maybe i'll start a thread on computer graphics(2d and 3d)soon
